::Jean Grey::
Name:Jean Grey
Codename:Marvel Girl/ Phoenix
Affiliation:X-men
Age:27
Physical Appearance: Jean’s beauty is well known around the manor, she has ivory skin, deep almond shaped emerald green eyes, a wealth of fiery red hair that is worn at various lengths, from short to waist length. Her figure is slender and well muscled from the daily work out she does in the danger room or the gym. Being the manor’s resident doctor she keeps herself in shape and healthy and does her best to encourage others to do the same.
Her clothing reflects a state of professionalism and elegance most of the time. She is usually seen in blouses and slacks, or skirts. Rarely does anyone see her in jeans and a t shirt unless she is taking a day off, which doesn’t always happen. She does not follow the usual trends of fashion, she simply prefers to wear what looks good on her and what is comfortable.
Strengths:Jean is a very independent woman who does not judge people until she gets to know them. She is a skilled doctor and scientist for the manor.
Weaknesses: Jean relies more on her powers in combat then she does hand to hand combat though she does know how to do so. If she exerts herself too much mentally there is the chance of a backlash of power resulting in possibly passing out. She trains both physically and mentally as much as she can to keep herself ready if a battle ensues. Jean has a lot of self-doubts regarding her powers. There is also fear there that keeps her from reaching her full potential with her powers; she does not wish to lose control as she has seen others do before. She respects her own abilities and powers and wishes to always maintain control so she doesn’t hurt those she cares for the most.
Powers: Jean has very powerful telepathic ability though it started out basic and she had to work at it to get it to the point that it is at now. Like nearly all telepaths she has the ability to read and project her thoughts into people’s minds. She can also sense mental thought patterns that allow her to remain aware of her surroundings and those in it much easier then a normal person would. She can also establish mental links between herself and others, her most prominent and strongest is with Scott Summers.
Her powers can be used for telepathic defense. She can mentally mask her own presence, from being detected by other psychics, and go one step further; masking the presence of those she is with as well. This defense mechanism is not perfect and can be detected by other powerful mutants. A method that works better is the creation of a psionic shield. Jean can also mentally manipulate the mind patterns of other mutants, making them undetectable by other psychics and devices such as cerebro.
Other Skills: Jean is skilled in medicine as well as chemistry and genetics, she serves as the Manors doctor and science teacher. She can also repair and pilot the blackbird thanks to Scott teaching her.
History: Jean Grey was born the daughter of Dr. John Grey and Elaine Grey. Before joining the X-Men, she lived with her family in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where Dr. Grey worked as a history professor at Bard College.
Jean is the only member of her immediate family with mutant abilities (her niece and nephew, Joey and Gailyn, are also revealed as mutants). Her powers first manifest at the age of ten, prematurely triggered when her best friend, Annie Richards, is hit by a car. As her friend lies dying, Jean instinctively links to her mind and senses what Annie feels when she dies; the trauma of experiencing her friend's death nearly kills Jean as well, but instead leaves her in a coma.
Jean's parents seek the expertise of specialists to rouse her out of her catatonic state, of which only Professor Charles Xavier is able to help. Xavier uses Jean to help locate mutants with his Cerebro Machine. During one fateful session on the astral plane Jean senses young Scott Summers in the orphanage and an aspect of her mind, manifesting in the form of a golden Phoenix raptor, reaches out to him. Xavier realizes that Jean's young mind cannot yet cope with her abilities, so he telepathically blocks her access to them, allowing her powers to evolve at a more natural pace. Jean develops her telekinetic powers at the age of 13. As a teenager, Jean leaves her parents to attend Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and, using the codename "Marvel Girl", becomes the first female X-Man, joining the team on its first mission against Magneto.
In an attempt to free Charles Xavier, Scott, and several kidnapped students from a compound in Alkali lake, Jean sacrificed herself for the sake of the entire team. She did what she felt she had to do, she was the only one with the power to save them all. It was believed that Jean Grey died that day, but that was far from the truth. The phoenix force had made its presence known and possessed the body of Jean Grey.
Jean was reincarnated, but the phoenix consumed it. It had complete control over her, and it gave her an unbelievable amount of power. Power that did no good. A side of Jean was shown to the world that never existed before, there was an evil in her that was capable of things she'd never imagine doing. She 'killed' the love of her life, as well as the man who taught her everything. She sided with the man who tried to destroy them on countless occasions, and fought against those she had once called friends. She created a path of destruction, and killed more people than she could count.
Sample RP: The council chamber was filled with hundreds of people, listening in on the debates happening below. Every now and then when one of the speakers made a point that the crowd agree with they would murmur that would settle only when they were called to order. The commission was here to debate one issue that the United States, and indeed the world, was divided on. What was to be done with the new mutant race that seemed to be growing within every country around the world? Should they be forced to register themselves, declare whom they are and what their powers were? Should they have the same rights as normal humans or should the be regulated and made to be second class citizens? Many had opinions but what was the best course of action for the government to take?
Jean Grey stood in front of a huge group of people with notes in front of her, she was here with Professor Charles Xavier to fight for mutant rights. She looked professional in a dark gray silk blouse and a black skirt; her waist length fiery red locks remained down to flow down her back and a pair of wire-framed glasses completed the look. “Ladies and Gentlemen, in every organism on Earth there exists a mutator gene - the X-factor, as it has come to be known. It is the basic building block of evolution - the reason we have evolved from homo habilus... to homo erectus, to Neanderthals, and, finally, to homo sapiens.
"Taking it's cues from the climate, terrain, various sources of nourishment, the mutator gene tells the body when it needs to change to adapt to a new environment. The process is subtle, normally taking thousands of years.” Jean paused as murmurs chased each other through the room before she continued. “Only in the last few thousand years did mankind begin to make clothes for himself, build shelters, use heat and grow food in large quantities. With this man-made environment remaining relatively stable, the X-factor became dormant… Until now. For reasons still not known to us, we are seeing what some are calling the beginnings of another stage of evolution."
Senator Kelly simply watched Jean for a moment before he spoke. “You're avoiding the question I posed to you at the beginning of the hearing, Ms. Grey. Three words: Are mutants dangerous?”
Jean adjusted the papers in front of her and met the Senator’s gaze. “I believe that is an unfair question Senator Kelly. The wrong person behind the wheel of a car can be dangerous.”
Kelly barely managed to keep a smirk off his face as he gave a small nod and responded to the woman. “Well, we do license people to drive.”
Jean nodded. “Yes but not to live.”
Kelly ignored the statement and continued his tirade. “Ms. Grey you work at a school for mutants in Westchester, New York. Can you tell the members of this committee what exactly you are teaching these mutants?”
“Math. History. Science. English. Athletics-“
Kelly cut in on her. “You wouldn't happen to be teaching them how to use their powers to-“
Jean did the same to him. “Control, Senator... we teach them control.”
Kelly held up a blown up photo of what appeared to be a melted car. "This was taken by a state police officer in Secaucus, New Jersey. A man in a minor altercation literally melted the car in front of him. I don't know where you come from, Ms.Grey, but where I come from, you don't go melting people's cars when they cut you off. You do it the old fashioned way -- you give 'em the finger. But what you presume to tell this committee-"
Jean cut him off. “I presume nothing, I am here to tell you that in time, the mutator gene will activate in every living human being on this planet. Perhaps even your children, Senator.”
“I can assure you, there is no such creature in my genes. Ms. Grey, we are not here to weed out mutants. The Registration Act is designed merely to assess their potential threat - if any - to national security.” Kelly turned to the group gathered behind him and spoke in a loud ringing voice. “Mutants are very real. They are among us. We must know who they are. And above all, we must know what they can do.”
"Senator Kelly....." The man didn't turn around as cheers echoed through the room Jean let out a small sigh and stepped off the podium. Her efforts fell on deaf ears it seemed.
