The wind was whistling outside. The trees bending heavily in the strong winds, and a girl standing outside, seemingly unaffected by the force of the breeze. She rose her arm and the leaves from the tree seemed to shoot straight up. She let her arm droop by her side and all of the wind subsided.
"Well, that's another thing I can tick off my training schedule" she said, grinning. Sofia had been practicing her manipulation of wind since the morning, and just managed to get the hang of it, without having to strain herself too much. "I'll just try one more" she said, extending her arms and cracking her knuckles.
Suddenly, her hand shot to the side and gale force winds came from nowhere. Her hair, blowing aimlessly in the wind, like the snake hair of the Medusa. "I think that definitely does practice for today" she said, and once again let the wind subside.

Jean glanced outside as the wind picked up and she sensed Sofia dealing with her powers. It was good the students were still practicing even though all the X-men save for herself was gone. She had become the unofficial headmistress since Professor Xavier was gone and no other adults resided in the manor. If anyone was outside the manor when the X-men were kidnapped she couldn't sense them and that unnerved her a bit. Stepping out to the front steps of the manor the redhead shielded her eyes against the wind and the sun as she watched the teenager. When Sofia stopped Jean smiled and stepped down a couple steps.
"Well done. looks like you really have the hang of your powers. Think you could control them in battle?"

Sofia turned around as she heard Jean's voice, semi startled. She placed her hand over her chest. "Oh, Jean" she said in surprise. Sofia didn't know anyone was watching her. Sometimes she felt a bit self concious practicing her powers in front of others. "That would depend on the type of battle. I mean, I think I could hold my own in a Danger Room sequence or something, but in an actual battle? I'm not sure, i've never been in a battle before" she said, turning her head to look behind her. Sofia didn't know when she would have to enter battle, but she hoped that it would at least be once she had a full grip on her powers.
She turned her head back to face Jean. Sofia had learnt that wearing jeans or shorts while using her powers was the best option. She had accidentally done it one day in a skirt, which embarrased her to the end of the world. She sat down on the grass. "Uhhh... Jean.... How long did it take you to get used to your powers?" she asked, looking up at Jean now, the sun's rays wisping over her back.

Jean nodded in understanding to Sofia's words and she moved to stand next to the girl staring at the gates across the yard. Fighting was never something Jean wanted to do, especially when it resulted in her using her power to do so. But life wasn't fair and people had to do things they didn't want to do in order to survive and protect. When Sofia asked her how long it took her to get used to her powers the redhead glanced down to her before she was looking to the gates again.
"Unlike most mutant's powers mine manifested well before puberty, I witnessed a tragedy and it triggered my telepathic abilities before they should have been. I was 1o years old when that happened, so needless to say getting used to my powers took a long time for me. When I was 13 my telekinetic powers manifested, scared me when I ended up levitating everything on the city block without any effort."
Jean paused and pulled her hair back from her face closing her eyes as she let those memories surface. She seemed to remember her childhood and most of what went on at the manor, it was simply the last several months or so that were fragmented.
"Being here at the manor under Professor Xavier's guidance helped me to control my powers and learn how to use them to benefit. As for a danger room session, its the best place to start to train for when the real thing is facing you. I wish I could say we don't have a fight ahead of us, but if I did that it would simply be wishful thinking. Its going to be tough getting the others back, assuming we can, so I am going to need all the help I can get."

Sofia just looked at Jean and listened to her story. There was a few differences with Jean compared to Sofia herself. The age when powers first manifested, and the fact that Jean had a sort of, specialist, to help her hone her powers. She had the Professor. The best person for Sofia currently wasn't here. Storm. She hadn't really met anyone, especially the X-Men. She was new, and only came to the mansion a couple of weeks before all the X-Men disappeared.
Like everyone, she had talked to the Professor, and she had met a couple of students, but that was practically it. Sofia wished Storm was here and willing to teach her which got her thinking about saving the X-Men. "How do we know if they are still alive? I mean, there is no evidence of anything. They could be alive, sure, but how do we find out?" she said, still looking at Jean.

Jean glanced to Sofia when she spoke of her worry about the other X-men.
"I can't sense them but I believe I would know if they were dead. Unless they have been taken off the planet I should have little trouble locating them with Cerebro."
The woman hadn't done so yet however because of the fact that she lacked the proper control. She wasn't the professor and didn't have the same discipline he did when it came to using the computer.
"I have faith that we will find them and bring them home safe. For now I encourage everyone to keep practicing with their powers."

Sofia stood after Jean finished talking. "I guess you are right" Sofia said, brushing the dirt off her pants. She turned back to the tree. "I wish Storm was here. She'd be the best person to get tips from" Sofia said excitedly. She held her hand up and a strong gust of wind flew across her, whipping her hair from side to side. She listened as the wind howled as she concentrated harder on making the wind blow faster.
Some of the branches were bending, yet she could see that Jean was still on her feet. "See, i'm not even strong enough to knock someone off their feet".

Jean's long hair whipped around in the wind that Sofia was creating and she watched the teen work with her powers. When she spoke of not being strong enough to knock Jean off her feet the redhead chuckled and shook her head. One hand came up to brush the hair back out of her face and she met Sofia's eyes.
"Only reason you couldn't knock me over is because of the psychic barrier I put up that was strong enough to keep me on my feet. If I had it down I'm sure you would have managed. Storm has been able to do it, she even picked Wolverine up and that is saying something given his adamantium skeleton. Keep working at it Sofia, I didn't always have the help of the professor so I had to learn some control on my own."

Julian Keller was feeling insecure and yet extremely rebellious, an odd combination that just did not add up with his current predicament. Having just been elected as Hellion leader only weaks before and then having his advisor and the rest of the X-Men ripped from him made him feel completely helpless, a feeling that a leader should never have to become accustomed to. The choice to callous up had already been made a mental goal by Julian himself, though the other Hellions were pushing him to that conclusion anyways. A leader could not always be led and that meant that Julian had to move off from Ms. Frost's guidance.
But at the same time as all these emotions ran recklessly through his mind, he felt as if he wanted to do something risky that no other student would dare. Like, run away and try to solve this mess on his own. But Julian knew his own restraints. As a leader, he was bound to upholding the responsibilities that came with it, and that meant no goofing off during such a dire time. The X-Men were gone, except for Jean Grey, who everyone knew had always been second-in-command to the Prof.
But no one was ready for such a drastic change. The students were only just beginning to find their limits and master their abilities when their mentors had been thrown out of commission, kidnapped overnight to leave them hanging on the edge of cliff with the craziest jitters you could ev- What was this beauty he was seeing? Julian rubbed his eyes as the sight of Wind Dancer was caught in his perspective.
He suddenly found himself in front of the mansion, face-to-face with Jean Grey and... the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Wind Dancer had swept him off his feet, emotionally and physically, for Julian, while his concentration was stinted, found himself lying in the grass after a mighty wind had blown through. However, he was not angry. Such a beauty could never anger him. Hellion telekinetically arose from his laying position and floated sub-consciously to the two, eyes glued to Wind Dancer.

"Well I just hope that they come back soon!" Sofia said, still concentrating on her powers. She heard a thud on the ground, but attributed it to some of the heavier objects that seemed to be plummeting of the roof, and from around the grounds in general. Although, this heavy object was actually Hellion, one of Sofia's peers. As of the past couple of days she had been thinking about the X-Men and her powers, rather than focussing on boys. She happened to have a small crush on Julian, but as far as she knew, he didn't know.
Sofia let her arms droop as the wind subsided. "It's pointless..." she said, turning around to see Hellion. "Oh, Julian" she said and smiled, slightly blushing. Her crush had gone into effect. From here on she was going to become one of those annoying, giggly little school girls, sizing up the meat that was guys their age.

Jean turned as Sofia did and she noticed Julian getting up off the ground from where the girls power had put him. She noticed the glazed look in Julian's eyes and the blush that Sofia had on her face. Ahh to be that young and have a crush, it seemed so long ago for her. Shaking her head slightly at the thought the redhead glanced beween the two teens and spoke.
"Why don't you take a break Sofia, you have been working hard as of late and it won't do to exhaust yourself in case we have need of you later."
She passed the two teens heading up the steps though she paused and glanced to the two once more meeting both their eyes.
"If you need me I will be either in the professor's office or my lab. If you would be kind enough to pass the word along to the other students to avoid problems and confusion it would be appreciated."
With that she headed inside and crossed the entry hall towards the professor's office. For the time being she had become acting Headmistress of the school thanks to everyone else being gone.

Julian's eyes kept on Sofia even as Jean walked off, trapped. Though he did let himself fall back to the ground, out of levitation, he was still completely focused on her. Sure, he had seen Wind Dancer a few times, but never up-close. As close as he was, he could see every blemish, though there were pretty much none. Entranced by her beauty, Julian trying to pick up a conversation. He didn't want her thinking he was some kind of stalkerish freak.
"I saw your little display going on there..." he muttered, fading off as he continued to stare. After a few minutes of recollecting his "cool", he continued in a slightly less nervous fashion. "So you control wind? I can do that too," he said, and telekinetically force the air particles around him faster, causing the wind to pick up, though not as hard as Sofia had had the current going.

She watched as Jean left. It was just her and Hellion. Why did Jean have to leave? She might do something stupid, and she didn't want that to happen... Not around Julian. "Thanks Julian" she said, trying to hide her blushing. She looked off to the side during the awkward silence. She had no idea what to say. She didn't want to make Julian think she was some kind of stupid twit. Finally the silence was broken.
"That's pretty cool" she said, turning back to Julian and smiling. "Is wind manipulation your only power?" Sofia said, seeming more interested. "I only can control the wind. Kinda sucks sometimes" she said, trying to seem cool. She had heard some girls her age talk like that at the mall although through her Venezuelan accent it seemed like she said something completely different.
