::YOUR CHARACTER::
Name: Jubilation Lee
Codename: Jubilee
Affiliation: X-Men
Age: 18
Physical Appearance:
In her opinion, her body shape is pretty awkward. It seemed as though she doesn't know what to do with her long limbs unless she's tired and sprawled out on the floor or asleep and falling off the bed. Sometimes clumsy, especially when she's in a hurry, she'll fall over her own feet or when she panics will hit probably hit someone as she flails her arms. A potential Olympic gymnast, she still works out and regularly does her routines every week in order to keep in shape. Standing at the height of 5' 5" and weighing around 129 lbs, Jubilee is grateful that she wasn't stuck with the very short end of the stick like her mom was. Not proportional, her torso is shorter than her legs but that doesn't stop her from wanting to run all over the place and back. Slightly tanned from being outdoors more than indoors, Jubilee enjoys the darker peach tone her skin turns to, even if it means she's pretty dry half the time. She's not afraid of hard-work and it shows on her hands which are a bit calloused and the lean muscles she had developed over the years.
Once upon a time (until she was 8), her black hair used to be a thick mess that fell down her back. At the time she didn't mind it too much because her mom liked it... and because the older woman was the one who would brush her hair. Mid-way through fifth grade, she had to chop it all off because one of her own bubblegum had lodged itself in her hair. At first she was sad to lose that much hair but not three weeks later and a head much lighter than before, Jubilee determined that short hair was the way to go- and it's been like that ever since. Cropped close to her head, she likes the feeling of getting up in the morning without worrying about some rat's nest that had formed on her head. The only problem she has with short hair though, is that it doesn't really keep her head warm enough during the cold seasons. Lately though because she's been so busy, her hair has started to grow out just a bit to her chin. She won't bother with getting a trim now, but she'll pretty much wait until her hair hits her shoulders before visiting the barber.
With a round face, her features are rather soft because of the small amount of baby fat still resting in her cheeks. Her chin even juts out just a little and like her nose, her chin is a soft nub than a pointed angle. If there was one feature that Jubilee would like to point out as 'odd', it would be her eyes. No, she doesn't have funky eye colors (they're dark brown, thanks), but it's the shape that bothers her. While they are almond-shaped, she has noticed that her left eye was rounder than her right eye. Maybe it's just her but her theory is that because she always rubs her left eye, it has 'stretched' out over the years. Her nose is a bit on the flat side and rounded on the tip with no definite nose bridge. Besides, Jubilee thinks that it's set perfectly in the middle of her face without looking too big or too small. Supposedly, her lips are a little bit on the big side but that's only because she's always ready to share one of those large and wide smiles.
Strengths:
gymnastics (the only thing she'll keep up with)
pickpocketing/picking locks (but she can't even do it for fun any more...)
self-reliant/dependent on herself
highly imaginative (great for pranks and thinking outside the box)
defensive tactics
compassionate, understanding the needs of others
science (not that she'll admit it)
Weaknesses:
mathematics (highly complex, beyond the basics stuff)
procrastination
impulsive/rash (when being challenged)
authority and rules (has a hard time paying attention or obeying them)
really opening up to people about herself
mall-wide sales (they're awesome!)
---
Life isn't always fair and when the tough gets tough, Jubilee is ready to take anything head-on with all the determination, passion, and strength she has (and then some). When it comes to herself, nothing is too small or too great to do on her own in order to show others she's more than capable to take care of herself. Street-smart and fiesty, she has learned a lot more about survival, life, and such from being on the street than depending on anyone else. So it's no surprise that she's got a 'devil-may-care' attitude, never really caring about what people think of her as long as she's happy and those she cares about are happy. A free-spirit, she likes to have the freedom to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. Playing pranks and breaking the rules more times than she can follow them, she just loves trying to see what she can and can't get away with. Besides, it helps her grow as a person to think outside the box and one can't really learn anything if there are no mistakes to learn from. Jubilee won't go overboard but she can be pretty kooky just trying.
School, school, school. Definitely not her best friend and while she won't be the 'good kid', she does do her fair share of the work to make pretty good grades. She just doesn't like to try harder than she has to, unless it's necessary- like cramming for a test the next morning. A compassionate person, Jubilee doesn't really harbor any harsh thoughts of hurting someone because it's just not in her to do it. Everyone's got a right to live just like she does, mutant or not. Loyal to those she completely cares and trusts, she never wants to fight them even if her life is on the line because it's just not cool. Jubilee hates to see people down-in-the-dumps and sad, especially her friends, so she will do almost anything to get them to cheer up. Through thick and thin, she's a very good friend to have around because even if someone messes up, she's willing to sit down and listen without judging anyone. Jubilee believes in second chances and if someone gave her a good reason, she's willing to give them that second chance because she herself was given one. Just don't push your luck with her. She's not stupid, and would figure out if someone was taking advantage of her or anyone else's kindness.
And she has a tendency to speak without thinking. A lot... pretty much all the time but Jubilee figured it was better that way. So sugar-coating, no holding back, it's still all straight to the point to her. If she thinks you're a stiff or anal, if you need to lighten up, doesn't like the way you act, she'll tell you. If she likes you well then she'll like you, just don't expect her to lie for you. If you ask her for an opinion, she'll give it to you without much hesitation or consideration on her part. This makes her seem completely insensitive but she only has your best interest at heart. It's better that you hear it now and deal with it than whining about it later on. She's only this honest because she knows that lying can get anyone into deep, deep trouble... and besides that living in a mansion where telepaths reside makes it damn hard to lie anyways.
Powers:
As a mutant, Jubilee can generate and manipulate pyrotechnic energy plasmoids. Generating these energy plasmas are all based on her mental capacity to control them, as she seemingly creates them out of thin air in her hands and then directing them anywhere and at any distance she wants. The power of her globules can range from harmless, blinding lights to powerful explosives, varying in strength and intensity upon manifestation and detonation. Due to the way they look when produced, she has a habit of calling them 'fireworks'. The energy tends to concentrate on her hands before being shot into different lengths and numbers of sparkling, colorful streamers.
If she's willing to work harder and focus more, Jubilee can use her plasmoids as concussive blasts. However, since this requires a lot more concentration and effort, she's not likely to actually try it out any time soon. If she's willing, Jubilee could even learn how to create excess energy and put it to good use, since most of it is just concentrated electrodes and ions. Putting it off as being too lazy to learn or practice, probably the biggest reason why she hasn't tried so hard is because she doesn't want to tempt fate. Without harm to herself, she can usually reabsorb excess plasma energy into her own body. However, if there are innocent bystanders within the vacinity... well she'd rather be careful than be crazy heroic.
Although she has yet to learn the mechanics behind her powers, the energy plamas work by charging the free-flowing ions and particles, so it has the ability to detonate itself on a sub-atomic level. Since they're everywhere, she's never short of it 'fuel' (so to speak). If she's able to gather and focus that much energy together, it can have devastating effects on whatever she detonates. The biggest thing she has blown up so far was a building, anything bigger or blowing up stuff repeatedly will start to wear her out a bit. At the moment though she's content with just producing small to medium detonations and blinding lights in order to keep her accuracy up.
Other Skills:
Jubilee is a talented gymnast and has above average hand-to-hand combat skills (most of it from her stint in juvie and living on the streets).
History:
It was a dream come true for the Lee's to not only achieve and prospered from the 'American Dream' but with a new baby, Jubilation, the Lees were having the time of their life. Going off to dinners with business associates and seemingly rubbing elbows with those of high and equal status, Mr. Lee believed that he had not only done the best for his family but was also bringing them more wealth and prestige by the day. While she wasn't completely spoiled, Jubilation wasn't short on the things she wanted either. The only thing that she lacked was her parents' attention- and they tried their best but the many functions they went to in order to keep up with appearances and their busy work schedules meant that they never really had any family time. Her toddler and later childhood were filled with many moments where she constantly had to fight for her parents' attention. When she was four, she was enrolled in a ballet class then a gymnastics class. With an energy level through the roof and the practices not only challenging but fun, she immediately loved the sport- especially when she found out that she was not only a natural but excelled at it. Whether it was floor exercises or the balance beam, she worked hard to master all of the forms.
Before too long Jubilation was enrolled into the local private school where she did the best she could for her parents' benefit. Although it was mind-numbing and dull, she tried to apply herself wherever she could while putting most of her focus and attention into her gymnastics. Math was (and still is) the hardest subject she had ever come by and though she tried, she eventually gave up and would only scrape by mostly on barely passing grades. It seemed that school tended to be a sore subject between her and her parents and the topic of choice when it came to their arguments. The strict discipline and the school's lack of any 'originality' or 'creativity' frustrated to Jubilation to no end. So in trying to 'spice' things up, she often got into trouble for causing disruptions with her little pranks and acting out in class. A habit that was hard to break, it had started off as goofing off in class but no sooner had she begun to hang out at the mall that she started to act out there. At first, she was just stealing little things like candy and small trinkets- just to see if she could get away with it. Then she began to race her friends in and out of the malls on roller blades and skateboards giving the mall cops the run-around. Caught once or twice before, she was 12 when her powers manifested after she was cornered by two of the security guards. On the defense and scared, she unknowingly used her powers to blind the men and quickly escaped.
Unfortunately manifesting her powers seemed to start off a bad sort of chain reaction, not only was she now identifiable to the authorities, her parents more or less brushed it off as her over-active imagination. It was a month after she had turned 13 that she received the worst news any kid could possibly get. She had been coming home from gymnastics practice when she noticed that they were police cars outside her home. Bracing herself, she entered and tried to be as nonchalant and when she asked them what they were doing, she got a point-blank answer; her parents had died in a car crash. Not wanting to believe them, they reaffirmed everything before shortly informing her that she was now in the state's care. Though she tried to run out on them, they caught her quickly and shipped her off to the juvenile center. However, finding the adults there just as rude and cold as the police she had met earlier, she didn't stay for long before running off and headed to the Hollywood Mall. Surviving through petty theft, she soon learned to control and use her powers to her advantage. Becoming a street performer, she earned what little money she could during the day and hid in the mall at night.
Becoming a little pain-in-the-ass, Jubilation constantly had to avoid the security cops and often had one too many close encounters with them. She didn't stay there for too long either when the security cops figured out she was a mutant and she had to leave once more. A street performer, she blended in by using lighters and other paraphernalia in order to disguise her mutant powers and constantly traveled from one place to the next while living out in the streets or in any of the half-way homes she could find. She was 14 when she was found by some X-Men (and on her way to Xavier's School). Wary and distrustful of them she didn't know what to think of an offer at the school, but seeing as how it was better than constantly being on the run, she accepted. It has been a few years since that invitation, Jubilee managed to finish out her high school years (something she detested) in between training and sneaking off with them on a few missions. The detentions and punishments were worth it though when she got to get on the field and fight alongside the people she came to view as family. So when she was asked to join the X-Men, she accepted with a pretty nice fireworks display. She might look like she was slacking off from time to time but she was doing her best to prove her worth and prove that she was right for the position.
Sample RP:
Humming it softly to herself, the tune just came naturally to her as she crouched low in one corner of the building and sidled out onto the wall before whistling the same melody out loud. It was like her theme song, a superhero sort of theme song that played every time the hero was about to make a big break or kick someone's ass. Even though the Pink Panther was already out and about, Brie was sure that the creator wouldn't mind if she used the song for her own personal use. It fit quite well didn't it? The Panther was just as cute, friendly, and mischievous as she was so it only made sense that Brie came to associate with the elusive cat. Even if she depended more on the 'look-at-my-wide-eyes-and-small-cute-whimper' to get her through the day, just sneaking around and playing something uberly wonderful as a prank made her feel like she was James Bond or some other wonderfully black-and-white spy. Which brought her to her next point- Operation Code Red. Today with the help of a fellow Blackspot and best friend, Brie was going to give little Miss Red a house-warming present for coming to Little Jimmy. There was just something about the red-head that irked her and surprisingly it didn't have anything to do with Brie being bored and Simon's simple suggestion of a prank. Okay well maybe just a little.
Today, they were to meet after-school and stake out where Chucky's bride could be and how to prank her well and fully. Brie never did like it when someone came to town and she didn't particularly care that the new
Taking out the two textbooks and a notebook, she realized that the extra weight and slight bulkiness was from the lunch Mamma Nsung had made for her today. In a slightly big bento box, food still sat there coldly warm waiting for her to devour it. And Brie would had too if it wasn't for the detention she got yesterday and had to serve at lunch. Normally, she'd serve it after school but sometimes a few of the teachers were kind enough to let the kids slide on by and give them a lunch detention at the cost of them eating lunch all together. It wasn't a really bad deal when you thought about but when the moment she opened up the box and her stomach grumbled, Brie knew that Tummy was pretty annoyed for not having lunch. Taking out a onigiri she took a bite into it and savored the wonderful rice ball her mom had made. The woman may act like them sometimes but damn she was a good cook! Who needed to go out of town for some 'authentic' Japanese food when Brie could easily get it at home for free- or at least in exchange for doing the dishes.
Taking another bite, she checked her watch and glanced out the window to see where Simon was. For second she caught one of the barista's eyes as it narrowed into a slight glare at her for eating something non-expensive and Starbuck-y. Smiling a Cheshire-like smile, Brie plopped the rest of her rice ball into her mouth before looking away at the now irritated worker. She hadn't meant to do it but it was just fun sometimes to see people get annoyed at something so small. Just because she was eating something else and not buying their overly charged (but really good) coffee didn't mean she was hated them. Brie just wanted to mock them and was that all really that bad? Hearing the front door open, she glanced once again to see if Simon had made it and waited with jittery legs.
